I’m thinking of building a boat.

So I built a model boat. Very fiddly. But very fun.

Your Man

Even though the hot summer Auckland sun is currently streaming through the windows as I record and mix this, last night when the thunder was happening was when I got the inspiration for this track.

Enjoy for a change some lovely triple tracked vocals to hide the flaws.

I’ve been investigating the fEarful cab below and building it seriously now and am looking at plywood and how to manipulate it. On the way I found this. Very cool!

Ebauchon

I just sat down tonight and decided to record something… anything! All of the stems of the ideas of this song originated on the bass. Needs further development, singing perhaps? I’m really getting sick of the GB drums though,

Know You

Hi guys! This is a song I’ve been working on for a while. The chords have been bouncing around my head for a good half year and the lyrics for about a month, but I’ve only recently had some time now I’m settled into work. My wife had some painting to do for a competition, so I had some alone time too. I even got her to sing in the second chorus!

I’ve decided I need some good monitors. I get it sounding so good in my cans but as soon as I put it on the stereo, the beauty vanishes. Overall I’m pretty happy with how this came together though.

As usual, let me know what you think!

Warrior Princess Wanted

Good morning everybody!

It’s been an exciting week in the life of Platonic Fox. I have now got a fancy new job lined up for Monday! So I guess posting frequency will drop, but I’ll try to get at least some sort of audio up every week. Recently though, a combination of working on Identity Slip stuff and having run out of broadband for the month (due to the wife “obtaining” one tree hill, terrible show) has resulted in not too much for you guys recently.

So in lieu of recordings I present to you an ad my mum found in the Foodtown (supermarket) classifieds. Enjoy!

This is a demo recording I’ve been working on for my band, Identity Slip. Let me know your thoughts on the mix!

I’m playing the bass in it by the way.

fEarful Bass Cabinet - Why you should build one.

Are you frustrated with your bass cab? Do you prefer the sound of your bass through the studio monitors rather than through your rig? Do you get sick of the fact that you have to be in the right place to hear your tone from your 410? Is your back aching from the heaviness of your cab? Are you confused by cabs never seeming to handle their stated power rating?

Look no further!

Once upon a time Eminence came out with these great, light, sensitive and deep “Kappalite” woofers that are on the forefront of speaker evolution. These speakers are too expensive for most large scale commercial cab makers (but not all) to make at a reasonable price point. Greenboy, as he is known on Talkbass, took grip of this opportunity and designed the DIY fEarful bass cab, consisting of a woofer able to handle sweet smooth lows and a high quality mid that accurately conveys your basses tone.

Have a look at some of these beauties!

This is more of a stem of a song than an actual song, but I’m not going to do anything more with it so I’ll just post it as is. It’s a little depressing. But I’m pretty happy with how the drums and guitars sound.

I’ve been mucking around with Inkscape and the Gimp today. Lots of fun! Although simple, I’m actually pretty proud of this. Proud enough that I’m willing to post it here.

This is a bass tutorial for Give It Up, by Planetshakers. It’s amazing how many people view these tutorials (mostly from the Philippines, I love you guys!), and they’re not that hard to do. Enjoy!

Dixit

One of my hobbies is board gaming, and by board gaming I do not  mean monopoly. Rather, I am interested in “designer” boardgames, a movement of new boardgames that has begun coming from Europe and followed by America that are generally very high quality, family friendly, accessible and not too geeky. One game coming out of this movement from France is an amazing game by the name of Dixit. This game is the designer version of a traditional party game.

This is my first audio blog! This track is tentatively named pozzidge, after a key line in the song. Wordsmithing is my primary weakness in songwriting. I am an admittedly poor lyricist. This song is written (by default) for my lovely wife, with whom I am almost 6 months into glorious marriage with.
